THE CORONATION OF KING PETER I OF SERBIA

King Peter I of Serbia
after his Coronation on September 19, 1904, in Belgrade

The first European coronation in this century occurred in Belgrade
on September 19, 1904,
when newly installed King Peter Karageorgevic of Serbia was crowned
(alone, because by then he was a widower)
in a Serbian Orthodox ceremony at the Cathedral of the Host of Holy Archangels.
Later, on October 7, 1904, he was annointed in the historic Zhicha Monastery
at the Church of the Holy Redeemer.
Neither of King Peter's two successors, King Alexander I and King Peter II,
was crowned or annointed.
(My thanks to Mr. Dragomir Acovic, the Chief Herald and President
of the Serbian Heraldry Society in Belgrade, Yugoslavia,
for the above photograph and information)
