SIN
"4 Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me
from my sin.
5 For I know my
iniquity, and my sin is always before me.
6 To thee only have I
sinned, and have done evil before thee:
that thou mayst be justified in thy words and mayst overcome when
thou art judged.
7 For behold I was
conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive
me."
Psalm 50: 4-7.
This Fifteenth Century mural,
painted by Tommaso di Ser Giovanni (called "Masaccio," meaning "Big
Ugly Tom")
on the wall to the left of the entrance to the St. Peter's (also
known as the Brancacci) Chapel
of Santa Maria del Carmine (the Calced Carmelites') Church in
Florence, Italy,
is called "Cacciata di Adamo ed Eva dal Paradiso
Terrestre"
("Expulsion of Adam and Eve from Earthly Paradise").

It has been said that original sin
is the only theological doctrine that is empirically
verifiable.
The Church's doctrine of original sin is the only reason
I am still a Catholic.
No other religion teaches this doctrine,
in the sense of holding that all of us
are from conception guilty of offending God,
and therefore, in my opinion, no other religion is
grounded in reality.
