- *Deng Ji-zhou (Teng
Chi-chou) Paul
b. in 1902; d. in 1990. Ordained in 1936.
Consecrated Bishop of Le-shan in Si-chuan in 1949 by Msgr.
Sentenced to a forced labor camp from 1969 to 1973.
After release, he in 1979 resumed leadership of his diocese, where
he resided until his death.
- Deng Yi-ming (Teng I-ming)
Dominic
b. in 1908; died in 1995. Ordained in 1941.
Consecrated a Bishop and named Administrator of Guang-zhou in 1951
by Msgr. Gustav Deswazieres.
Imprisoned from 1958 to 1980.
Upon release he resumed leadership of his diocese,
but that same year went to Hong Kong for medical treatment.
While in Hong Kong, he was in 1981 appointed by Pope John Paul II
as Archbishop of Guang-zhou.
Denounced by the CCPA for accepting the appointment, he remained
in Hong Kong until 1994,
when he moved to San Francisco, California, where he lived until
his death in Connecticut,
with Cardinal Kung P'in-mei Ignatius at his bedside.
- *Duan Yin-ming
(Tuan Yin-ming) Matthias
b. in 1908; still living. Ordained in 1937.
Consecrated Bishop of Wan-xian in Si-chuan in 1949 by Msgr.
Sentenced to a forced labor camp from 1966 to 1973.
Upon release, he resided in his home Da-xian in Si-chuan from 1073
to 1979
In 1980 he resumed leadership of his diocese.
- Fan Xue-yan (Fan
Hsüeh-yen) Peter Joseph
b. in 1907; d. in 1992. Ordained in 1934.
Consecrated Bishop of Bao-ding in He-bei in 1951 by Msgr.
Imprisoned from 1957 to 1979 and again from 1984 to 1987.
Upon release, he resided in Bao-ding in He-bei until his
death.
- Gong
Pin-mei (Kung P'in-mei) Ignatius
b. in 1901; still alive. Ordained in 1930.
Consecrated Bishop in 1949 by Msgr.
Appointed Bishop of Shang-hai in 1950 and Administrator of
Nan-jing and Su-zhou in 1951.
Imprisoned from 1955 to 1985.
Three years after his release in 1985 on parole, he went to
Connecticut where he now lives.
Named Cardinal in pectore by Pope John Paul II (appointment
publicized in 1986).
- *Han Ting-bi (Han T'ing-pi) Francis
b. in 1908; d. in 1991. Ordained in 1934.
Consecrated Bishop of Hong-dong in Shan-xi in 1951 by Msgr.
Antonio Riberi.
Under house arrest in 1957 and in a forced labor camp from 1958 to
1979.
After release, he resumed leadership of his diocese in 1980.
- Lei Zhen-xia (Lei
Chen-hsia) Simon
b. in 1914; d. in 1971. Ordained in 1940.
Consecrated Bishop of Feng-yang in Shan-xi in 1951 by Msgr.
Antonio Riberi.
Imprisoned in 1955; later sentenced to death and executed in 1971
in Tai-yuan in Shan-xi.
- *Li Bo-yu (Li
Po-yü) Alois
b. in 1908; d. in 1980. Ordained in 1933.
Consecrated Bishop of Zhou-zhi in Shaan-xi in 1951 by Msgr.
He was elected a Vice President of the CCPA in 1957.
Imprisoned from 1966 to 1971.
Upon release, he returned to his home in Wei-qi-zhai, Shaan-xi,
remaining there until he died.
- *Li Dao-nan (Li
Tao-nan) Joseph
b. in 1902; d. in the early 1970s. Ordained in 1936.
Consecrated Bishop of Pu-qi in Hu-bei in 1950 by Msgr. Ferrucius
Rosa.
He was elected Vice-President of the CCPA in 1957.
- Li Huan-de (Li Huan-te)
Pacificus, O.F.M.
b. in 1904; d. in 1972. Ordained in 1930.
Consecrated Bishop of Ye-nan in Shaan-xi in 1953 by Msgr. Zhou
Wei-dao.
Imprisoned from 1955 to 1965.
Upon release, he returned to his home in San-yuan, Shaan-xi,
staying there until he died
- *Pi Shu-shi (P'i
Shu-shih) Ignatius
b. in 1897; d. in 1978. Ordained in 1928.
Consecrated Archbishop of Shen-yang in Manchuria in 1949 by
Msgr.
Briefly arrested in early 1950s.
He was elected President of the CCPA in 1957 and again in
1962.
- *Wang Xue-ming
(Wang Hsüeh-ming) Francis
b. in 1910; d. in 1997. Ordained in 1935.
Consecrated Bishop of Hoh-hot in Inner Mongolia in 1951 by Msgr.
Morel.
Imprisoned from 1955 to 1957, then in a forced labor camp from
1966 to 1970.
In 1980 he resumed leadership of his diocese as a Patriotic
bishop.
- Wan Ci-zhang (Wan
Tz'u-chang) Joseph
b. in 1907; d. in 1961. Ordained in 1932.
Consecrated Bishop of Heng-yang in Hu-nan in 1952 by Magr. Li
Dao-nan.
Sentenced in 1958 to 20 years in prison, where he died three years
later.
- Yang Guang-qi (Yang
Kuang-ch'i) Humilis
b. in 1912; d. in 1957. Ordained in 1940.
Secretly appointed Bishop of Yu-ci in 1955,
but arrested and died in prison without having been
consecrated.
- *Yi Xuan-hua (I
Hsüan-hua) Francis
b. in 1900; d. during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976).
Ordained in 1926.
Consecrated Bishop of Xiang-yang in Hu-bei in 1951 by Msgr. Li
Dao-nan.
He was elected Vice Secretary General of the CCPA in 1957.
- Zhang Ke-xing (Chang
K'o-hsing) Melchior
b. in 1914; d. in 1988. Ordained in 1938.
Consecrated Bishop of Xi-wan-xi in Chahar in Inner Mongolia in
1951 by Msgr. Leo De Smedt.
Imprisoned by the Japanese in He-bei during World War II.
Imprisoned by the Communists continuuously from 1949 to 1985,
except for two brief releases in 1951 and 1957.
Upon release, he resided at Xuan-hua in He-bei until his
death.
- Zhou Wei-dao (Chou Wei-tao)
Anthony, O.F.M.
b. in 1908; d. in 1983. Ordained in 1930.
Consecrated Bishop of Feng-xiang in Shaan-xi in 1950 by Msgr.
Antonio Riberi.
Imprisoned from 1959 to 1979.
Upon release, he resumed leadership of his diocese for the
underground Church.
Before he died, in 1980 he consecrated an auxiliary bishop to
succeed him.
- *Zong Huai-mo
(TsungHuai-mo) Alphonsus, O.F.M.
b. in 1904; d. in 1975. Ordained in 1931.
Consecrated Bishop of Yan-tai in Shan-dong in 1951 by Msgr.
Guiseppe Oste.
He joined the CCPA and resided in Bei-jing until his death.
